INTERNATIONAL GOLF MUSEUM FOUNDATION TO SUPPORT JUNIOR GOLF FOUNDATION OF THE DESERT THROUGH FUND RAISING AND OTHER EFFORTS

LA QUINTA, CA-The International Golf Museum Foundation, established in 2000 in an effort to create a golf museum of international stature in the Coachella Valley, announced today that it will sponsor its first educational program by working with the Palm Desert based-Junior Golf Foundation of the Desert in a variety of fund raising and promotional efforts that will help introduce young people to the sport.
A non-profit foundation with the mission of building a fully endowed museum dedicated to the past, present and future of golf, the International Golf Museum (IGM) has also set as one of its goals the establishment of a variety of educational programs and initiatives, including the sponsorship of youth golf programs.
“Our participation with the Junior Golf Foundation of the Desert is a meaningful first step towards our organization’s ultimate goal of establishing the International Golf Museum in the Coachella Valley,” said John Peņa, president of the IGM Foundation and the former mayor of La Quinta. “We recognize the need to support organizations that work with youths to encourage them to become lifelong participants in a sport that we all love.”
The Junior Golf Foundation of the Desert (JGFD) was founded in 1998 by Joe Simonds, the head PGA professional at the Golf Center in Palm Desert, who has developed a variety of innovative programs to introduce youngsters to the game of golf, including the highly-successful Mobile Golf™ that brings the game of golf and its values to elementary school children by setting up a portable golf facility and teaching curriculum on playgrounds, parks or even a large yard. Other programs
conducted by the JGFD are the Desert Golf Academy and The Coachella Valley Junior Golf Tour.
“We are excited about the opportunity to work with the International Golf Museum Foundation and its board in helping grow our programs,” said Simonds. “I think we have many of the same goals-to help educate and spread knowledge about the game of golf, and the idea of an international museum dedicated to golf, here in the desert, is one that we feel has a lot of merit.”
